TotalEnergies ENEOS completed Phase 2 of a rooftop solar project at PT. Perusahaan Industri Ceres in Bandung, Indonesia. The expansion adds 1.4 MWp of capacity with 2,400 panels, bringing the total on-site solar system to 3.6 MWp. This generates 4,630 MWh of clean electricity annually, covering roughly 12% of Ceres' power needs. Under a 15-year agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS finances, builds, and operates the system while Ceres pays only for the power produced with no upfront costs. The combined project cuts an estimated 4,200 tons of carbon emissions per year. Ceres, a chocolate confectionery producer, aims to reduce its reliance on conventional electricity and support Indonesia's net-zero target by 2060. The joint venture between TotalEnergies and ENEOS plans to develop 2 GW of decentralized solar capacity across Asia. This project shows how onsite solar can lower emissions and energy costs for industrial manufacturers without requiring capital investment from the customer.

Nice to see a concrete number on emissions reduction 4,200 tons per year from 3.6 MWp rooftop solar. That is a decent chunk for a single factory. The 15 year PPA model with no upfront cost is how you get more manufacturers on board.

12% of their power needs covered is modest but that is typical for rooftop. Would be interesting to know if the rest comes from the grid or if they have other on site generation. Also no mention of battery storage, so this is daytime only offset.

The press release says they aim for 2 GW of decentralized solar across Asia. That is ambitious. Indonesia has decent solar resource but grid interconnection and land rights are real bottlenecks. Curious how much of that 2 GW is actually in the pipeline.

TotalEnergies has a lot of experience in large scale solar but distributed generation is a different beast. The 50/50 JV with ENEOS gives them local knowledge in Asia. Still, 2 GW in five years is a big target, especially with permitting delays.

The article mentions this supports Indonesia's net zero by 2060 goal. But rooftop solar at 12% of factory load is a small step. The country needs massive utility scale solar and grid upgrades to make a real dent. Still, every MWh counts.

True but industrial rooftop is low hanging fruit. No land acquisition, no transmission lines needed, and the customer gets lower bills. The payback for the developer is probably 5-7 years on a 15 year contract. That works.
