The material is designed as a drop-in replacement for extruded polystyrene (XPS) in food packaging applications like trays for meat, fish, and fresh produce. The company claims it can run on existing XPS extrusion lines with similar throughput, so converters can switch without major equipment changes. The foam is industrially compostable, recyclable, and free of styrene, PFAS, and persistent microplastics. It has FDA and Korean food contact approval and is available globally for non-food use in other regions. The key claim is a 70% reduction in carbon footprint compared to XPS foam parts. The product uses high melt strength PLA that does not require extra additives or chain extenders for stable foaming.
