Topsoe has signed a technology contract with J Westling & Co to supply SynCOR Ammonia technology, equipment, and catalysts for a blue ammonia fertilizer plant in Gothenburg, Nebraska. The facility will produce about 500 short tons per day of low-carbon ammonia using natural gas feedstock, aiming to cut transportation costs for Midwest farmers who currently pay $100 to $120 per ton to ship ammonia from the Gulf Coast. This is the first deployment of Topsoe's SynCOR Ammonia autothermal reforming technology dedicated to low-carbon fertilizer production. The project supports domestic fertilizer supply chains and reduces reliance on imports. According to BNEF, clean ammonia could make up roughly 13 percent of global ammonia supply by 2030, with the United States expected to produce about one third of that. By producing blue ammonia locally, the plant aims to improve supply reliability and lower costs for Nebraska farmers while also supporting rural jobs.

Blue ammonia using natural gas feedstock. So the carbon capture part is what makes it low carbon. Article doesnt specify capture rate or storage method. Would like to see those numbers before calling it clean.

Blue ammonia with natural gas feedstock. The carbon intensity depends entirely on capture rate and methane leakage upstream. Without those details this is just a press release. 45Q tax credit eligibility would be the real test.
