Tokio Marine Group has made a strategic investment in Kita, a specialist carbon insurer and Lloyd's of London coverholder. The move builds on an existing partnership with Tokio Marine Kiln and aims to scale insurance products that protect carbon credit buyers against delivery failures and non-performance risks. A key focus is Japan, where Kita will work with Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance to develop new coverage options. The partnership also plans to offer satellite-based risk assessments for carbon projects to corporate clients. By combining Kita's remote sensing tools with Nippon Koei's engineering consulting services, the companies intend to provide a one-stop solution covering the entire carbon project lifecycle, from early screening to credit issuance. This integration of digital risk analytics, engineering due diligence, and insurance could strengthen buyer confidence in voluntary carbon markets.
