TNB and Port of Tanjung Pelepas sign 16 GWh per month green electricity deal in Malaysia
klsescreener.comTNB and Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) have signed a green electricity deal under Malaysia's Green Electricity Tariff (GET) program. PTP will buy 16,000 GET blocks, equal to 16 GWh of certified renewable electricity per month, from May 2026 through December 2027. That makes PTP the largest Malaysian port subscriber to date and lets it claim 100 percent renewable electricity for its operations. The subscription includes annual Malaysia Renewable Energy Certificates (mRECs), which PTP will use to back its 45 percent carbon reduction target by 2030 and net zero by 2050. The deal uses the existing grid, so PTP does not need its own solar or wind assets. Instead, it pays the normal tariff plus a green premium and receives the corresponding certificates. For Malaysia, the partnership is a practical example of how large infrastructure operators can use existing energy programs to cut scope 2 emissions. The bigger test is whether GET revenue supports new renewable generation, not just relabeling current supply.
