Swiss carbon removal company Tivano has received CHF 500,000 (about $606,000) from the REPIC platform to scale its biomass storage project in Namibia. The grant supports Project Dragonfly near Otjiwarongo as it moves from demonstration to larger deployment. Tivano stores biomass from cleared encroaching bush, which also helps restore land affected by invasive species. The project has already issued its first CORCs under Puro.earth's terrestrial biomass storage methodology, with more than 1,000 units generated. Tivano says it has restored 120 hectares and removed over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 so far. A second project, Butterfly 1, is under construction. The funding comes from a joint Swiss government initiative involving SECO, SDC, FOEN, and SFOE.
