Tirupati district schools and hostels to go net zero under state program with solar, water, and waste targets

A district-level program in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, is pushing 58 welfare residential schools and hostels toward net zero operations. The initiative covers solar energy for power, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge, waste segregation and composting, plus tree planting for carbon offsets. The first phase includes Social Welfare, BC Welfare, and Tribal Welfare hostels, Kasturba Gandhi schools, and residential schools run by the state. The district has signed an MoU with the Heartfulness Foundation to set up a project management unit that will handle baseline assessments, action plans, and monitoring. Officials are appointing nodal officers and forming Green Committees at each campus to keep the work moving. The program is called Net Zero and Healthy Campus and is meant to cut emissions while improving student living conditions.
