Tiger Brands, a JSE-listed food producer, has switched on solar power at seven manufacturing sites across South Africa. The latest site is its Boksburg culinary factory, which now runs on a 1.9 MWh solar installation under a power purchase agreement with Solar Africa. The company aims to source 31% of electricity from renewables by 2030 and cut carbon emissions by 30%. Tiger Brands also signed a wheeling agreement with Apollo Africa to bring off-site renewable electricity through the national grid to its Gauteng factories starting in 2028. That deal is expected to cover about 60% of electricity demand at facilities supplied by Ekurhuleni Municipality. The company is pairing these projects with site-specific energy audits and metering to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach.
