Thyssenkrupp Calvion partners with Heirloom Carbon on large-scale CO2 removal in Alberta, Canada

Thyssenkrupp Calvion has signed agreements with naval supplier TKMS and direct air capture company Heirloom Carbon Technologies to build a large-scale carbon dioxide removal project in Alberta, Canada. The initiative combines Heirloom's limestone-based capture method with thyssenkrupp's industrial engineering and a next-generation calciner using oxyfuel technology and electrification from SaltX Technology. The goal is to create scalable carbon removal infrastructure while supporting local suppliers and high-quality jobs under Canada's Industrial and Technological Benefits policy. The partnership targets Alberta's natural resources and skilled workforce to position Canada as a top exporter of clean technologies. The project also aims to provide decarbonization solutions for other emissions-intensive industries globally. Heirloom's accelerated mineral carbonation process maximizes natural CO2 absorption rates, while thyssenkrupp's engineering ensures plant scale-up.
