Third Nature Repair Market Project Registered: 968 Hectare Reforestation Site in NSW Also Seeks ACCU Carbon Credits
miragenews.comAustralia's Nature Repair Market has registered its third project, the Nortongong Biodiversity Restoration Project near Coonamble in north-west New South Wales. The project will replant native vegetation across 968 hectares of cleared land, with the aim of supporting recovery of the Weeping Myall open woodland ecosystem. The landholder, Wilga Farming, and project agent, Verdant Partners, plan to combine biodiversity credits with carbon abatement under the ACCU Scheme using the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings method. That combination matters because tradeable ACCUs give the project an additional income stream while the trees are being established. The property is expected to return to grazing once plantings are mature, so it is an example of biodiversity and carbon work happening on land that remains in agricultural production. More detail is available on the Clean Energy Regulator's Biodiversity Market Register.
