The 2026 Climate Pledge Report: 705 companies, 11% emissions cut, and what it means for net zero
sustainabilitymag.comAmazon and Global Optimism's Climate Pledge now includes 705 companies across 62 industries and 49 countries. The 2026 report says members cut direct and purchased energy emissions by an average of 11% between 2021 and 2024, compared with 7% for non-signatories. Those reductions total 14 million metric tons of CO2e, with the group aiming to prevent at least 2.6 billion metric tons per year by 2040. The report also highlights joint projects like Laneshift, which deployed 357 electric heavy goods vehicles in India, Mexico, and Brazil, avoiding 3,215 metric tons of CO2e, and the Electrifying Drayage Alliance for port freight. It adds water stewardship efforts from Amazon, HEINEKEN, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners. For carbon market watchers, the main open question is how much of the 2040 target will depend on offsets rather than direct operational cuts.
