Thailand secures US$200 million World Bank loan for clean energy and low-carbon city pilots
thephuketnews.comThailand has secured a US$200 million World Bank loan to support clean energy investment, energy efficiency upgrades and low-carbon city pilots. The funding will go through the Export-Import Bank of Thailand with a government guarantee. Initial projects target public buildings, schools, healthcare facilities and district offices in Bangkok and industrial estates, using the ESCO model where specialist firms finance the upgrades and get repaid from energy savings over time. The loan also backs work on a Thailand Just Transition Roadmap with Krungthai Bank, plus a separate initiative exploring blended finance and carbon credits under the I-SPARK project in Rayong. With roughly 3.25 million SMEs making up 99.5% of all enterprises, the challenge is making sure the transition support reaches smaller businesses and workers, not just large industrial users.
