Thailand's Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) has announced a new strategic initiative called 'The NEXT Chapter to Net Zero 2050' on its 20th anniversary. The plan focuses on five priority areas to accelerate the cement industry's shift from a traditional manufacturer to a climate solution partner, working alongside the Thai government under a 'ONE MIND' approach. Key elements include the SARABURI SANDBOX pilot project, which tests low-carbon policies, green financing, and technologies for potential national scaling. The initiative aligns with Thailand's broader 2050 net-zero roadmap and involves partnerships with international bodies like UNIDO and GIZ. The Ministry of Industry is pushing enabling policies and ESG standards to support industrial decarbonization while maintaining competitiveness. TCMA's five implementation engines cover policy, technology, energy transition, circular economy, and digitalization to ensure measurable and scalable emissions reductions. This move signals a concrete step in Southeast Asia's industrial decarbonization, turning a heavy-emitting sector into a proactive climate partner. The focus on a real-world sandbox and cross-sector coordination provides a model for other emerging economies looking to balance industrial growth with net-zero commitments.
