Thailand has reduced over 3.8 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent since 2019 by switching to low-carbon hydraulic cement. The cement industry replaced high-carbon clinker with alternative materials while maintaining structural standards under Thai Industrial Standard TIS 2594. This puts Thailand ahead of its NDC roadmap schedule and shows how industrial process changes can deliver measurable emissions cuts. The transition was driven by collaboration between 34 implementing partners and six government ministries. Hydraulic cement is now the primary structural cement across the country, used in infrastructure, public buildings, and residential construction. The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association says the model could be replicated in other industrial sectors and expanded regionally. Key milestones include over 300,000 tonnes CO2 reduction in 2021, nine years ahead of schedule, and an additional 1 million tonnes in 2022-2023. The achievement was formally recognized at the TCMA at 20 event with Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa presiding. This is a concrete example of industrial decarbonization at scale with verified results.
