Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy has mentioned the possibility of a tri-motor Model 3 Plaid. While the project is currently a lower priority compared to the Cybercab and next-gen affordable models, Moravy highlighted technical paths including carbon sleeves and permanent magnet motors to increase efficiency and RPM. A potential Model 3 Plaid would likely exceed 1,000 horsepower, moving the compact sedan into the sub-2-second 0-60 mph range currently reserved for the Model S Plaid. This shift would represent a significant jump in performance for the Model 3 lineup.
