Tesla Q3 2026 Deliveries Beat Estimates, But BYD Widens EV Sales Gap
carboncredits.comTesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in Q3 2026, beating analyst expectations of 461,974 and easing worries about near-term demand. Deliveries rose 1.3% from the previous quarter but stayed 2.1% below the same period in 2025. The company also deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage, below the 15.9 GWh analysts expected. BYD sold 762,478 battery-electric passenger vehicles in the quarter, about 275,946 more than Tesla. The gap highlights how competition is shifting as Chinese EV makers expand overseas. Tesla's storage miss is worth watching because large-scale batteries are central to its clean energy story and to grid integration. From an emissions perspective, Tesla estimates its products avoided 37 million metric tons of CO2e in 2025, and one EV avoids about 32 tons over its life compared with a gasoline car. Those numbers depend on grid mix and driving patterns, so they are directional rather than fixed.
