Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy has confirmed that a tri-motor Model 3, potentially branded as a Plaid, is a concept under internal consideration. The proposed design would likely use carbon-sleeved rotor motors to achieve acceleration under two seconds, though it is not currently on a production schedule. Production of such a vehicle depends on the rollout of the next-generation Roadster and the scaling of carbon-sleeved motor manufacturing at Gigafactory Texas. For now, Tesla is prioritizing Robotaxi operations and Optimus robot production over a high-performance Model 3 variant.
