Tesco's 2,000th Electric Delivery Van Marks Milestone on Road to 2030 Zero-Emission Fleet
greenretail.worldTesco has reached 2,000 electric vans in its UK home delivery fleet, doubling its EV count in the past year. The 2,000th van entered service at the Hemsworth superstore in West Yorkshire, and over 30% of the retailer's home delivery network is now electric. Tesco aims for a fully electric home delivery fleet by 2030 and net zero operational emissions by 2035, with the switch estimated to be equivalent to taking around 22,000 cars off the road annually. Beyond the vans, Tesco is also deploying 42 low-carbon trucks at its Livingston distribution centre, powered by biomethane from animal and food waste, and adding solar-powered refrigeration units on trailers. These moves cut diesel miles and support the retailer's broader decarbonization strategy, though questions remain about charging infrastructure and the true lifecycle emissions of biomethane.
