Tesco is calling on retailers and farmers to scale up low-carbon fertilisers, aiming to reduce emissions and stabilise supply chains. UK CEO Ashwin Prasad said at London Tech Week that domestic production of these fertilisers can help farmers cut costs and avoid volatile global markets. Trials on Tesco's Low Carbon Concept Farm in Lincolnshire showed a 50% drop in carbon emissions on potato crops with no yield loss. The supermarket chain warns that many promising agtech solutions remain stuck at pilot stage. To bridge the gap, Tesco is relaunching its Agri-tech Challenge to fast-track innovations onto commercial farms. The move reflects a broader push by UK retailers to de-risk farming through cleaner inputs and more resilient supply chains.
