Tencent announced 16 winners of its CarbonX 2.0 initiative, sharing nearly $30 million in catalytic funding to scale breakthrough climate technologies. The winners span carbon dioxide removal (CDR), carbon capture and storage for steel (CCUS), carbon utilization, and long-duration energy storage (LDES), with pilot projects in Kenya, Serbia, China, and the Maldives. The initiative received 660 applications from 54 countries, highlighting strong global interest in next-gen decarbonization solutions. Tencent also disclosed progress on its own 2030 climate targets, including a 2.4 million tCO2e reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions in 2025 and a jump in renewable energy use at its owned data centers from 49.8% to 83%. The company's T-AIDC data center architecture now achieves over 98% power efficiency, and its virtual power plant for steel uses digital twins and AI to shift energy use and reduce emissions. These results show how tech firms can balance AI-driven energy demand with real decarbonization progress.
