Telford & Wrekin Council cuts carbon emissions 69% since 2018, on track for 2030 neutrality
shropshirelive.comTelford & Wrekin Council has reduced its operational carbon emissions by 69% from the 2018/19 baseline, according to its latest annual report. The council emitted 1,848 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2025/26, down from 5,896 tonnes, and is about 5% ahead of its interim target for a 70% reduction by 2027. Reductions come from energy efficiency across council buildings, low-carbon transport, and renewable projects. Notable measures include the upcoming Matthew Webb Swimming and Fitness Centre, which will run entirely on renewables, a refurbishment at Wellington Leisure Centre saving 102 tonnes of CO2 annually, 63 new EV charging points, and two new electric buses. The council also reports £1.19 million in avoided energy costs since baseline, and continues to support households through Telford Energy Advice.
