Telangana Offers Rs 1.5 Lakh Subsidy to Convert 18,766 Autos to Electric
newindianexpress.comTelangana has approved a Rs 200 crore scheme to convert 18,766 petrol and diesel autorickshaws in Hyderabad's CURE region to electric. Owners can get up to Rs 1.5 lakh for retrofitting with an AIS-123 approved kit or for buying a new electric three-wheeler. The scheme is part of the Telangana Rising Vision-2047. The funding comes equally from SC, ST, BC, and Minority Welfare departments, each contributing Rs 50 crore. A three-tier monitoring system will oversee implementation, with district collectors heading sanction committees. The goal is to reduce emissions from public transport and move toward net-zero. The scheme covers both retrofitting existing chassis and replacing old autos with new EVs. For retrofits, the subsidy covers kit, installation, and accessories up to Rs 1.5 lakh. For new purchases, a fixed subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh is deducted from the on-road price. This could be a significant step for cleaner air in Hyderabad.
