Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran, and Tereos Launch Rebound JV for Major SAF Plant in France

Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran, and Tereos have formed a joint venture called Rebound to build a large sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility at the Port of Dunkirk in France. The plant will use Alcohol-to-Jet technology to produce around 160,000 tons of SAF each year from advanced ethanol. This positions it as one of the biggest SAF plants in Europe and aims to help meet the EU's RefuelEU Aviation blending targets, which require 6% SAF by 2030 and up to 70% by 2050. The project brings together engineering expertise from Technip Energies, offtake potential from Airbus and Safran, and ethanol supply from Tereos. The partners are now working through engineering studies, environmental assessments, and permitting before a final investment decision. The location at Dunkirk offers strong logistics for feedstock and fuel distribution. If it moves forward, this could be a key step in scaling up SAF production in Europe and cutting aviation emissions without major changes to existing aircraft or infrastructure.
