Tata Steel Nederland has joined the EU-funded CiSMA project to develop high-grade steel made entirely from recycled scrap. The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by utilizing Electric Arc Furnace technology for the automotive and home appliance markets. Partners including Volvo Cars and Electrolux are testing the commercial viability of this recycled steel to lower Scope 3 emissions. The project also uses machine learning to remove impurities from scrap and recover critical raw materials like copper.
