Tata Power has announced a ₹15,000 crore plan to upgrade Mumbai's electricity network to serve the power needs of AI data centers. The program covers distribution, transmission, receiving stations, and new green-energy projects. It would add around 430 MW of distribution capacity, with another 1,236 MW of transmission projects under evaluation and about 1,150 MW of green-energy projects in negotiations. The work includes upgrades to existing 110 kV and 220 kV lines and new receiving stations that let large customers connect at lower voltages. Data centers need high, continuous power and redundant connections, so the grid investment outside the facilities themselves is as important as the buildings. No completion date has been set for the whole program. Final decisions depend on regulatory approvals, land access, customer commitments, and grid-planning requirements. The plan highlights how data-center growth in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai now depends on transmission and low-carbon electricity supply, not just construction.
