Tata Motors has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Welspun Renewable Energy for an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid project. The project will supply around 200 million units of renewable electricity each year to four commercial vehicle manufacturing plants in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka. It is expected to cut over 1.4 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and supports Tata Motors' RE100 goal of sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030. The hybrid design combines wind and solar generation to provide a more stable power supply than standalone renewable projects. The partnership includes co-investment from both companies and a long-term PPA. 86 MW hybrid wind-solar for four plants. 200 million units per year and 140,000 tonnes CO2 cut. Decent numbers but I want to know the PPA rate and whether this is a captive or group captive setup.

Good question on the PPA rate. Also curious about the hybrid ratio. Wind-solar hybrid can help with evening peaks but only if the wind profile matches. Would like to see the capacity factors they are assuming.

The RE100 target is 2030. This project helps but they will need a lot more capacity to cover all their plants. 86 MW for four plants sounds like a start not the whole picture.

RE100 is voluntary but it does create a clear procurement signal. The question is whether the PPA structure qualifies under Indian open access rules. Group captive can get around some of the cross subsidy surcharges.

Tata Motors has a RE100 target for 2030. This 86 MW project is a step but they will need several more of these to cover all their manufacturing load. The article says four plants but does not list total demand.
