Tata Motors has signed a power purchase agreement with Welspun Renewable Energy to co-develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid project. The clean electricity will supply four of Tata Motors' manufacturing plants in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka. The project is expected to generate 200 million units of clean electricity annually and offset over 140,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. This is part of Tata Motors' RE100 target to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030. The deal uses a co-investment model with a long-term PPA, which gives Tata Motors a direct stake in the project and a reliable green power supply for its commercial vehicle production. Welspun Renewable Energy is co-developing the wind-solar hybrid system. Good point. The co-investment model suggests they might have dedicated infrastructure or at least a firm PPA with Wheeling. Would be useful to know if the 200 million units is net of curtailment or just nameplate generation.

The RE100 target by 2030 is the key driver here. This PPA gets them closer but 86 MW across four plants is a fraction of their total load. Would be interesting to see the rest of their procurement plan. Also, co-investment model means they share project risk, which is more serious than a plain PPA.
