Tarmac has launched a new asphalt plant at Barrasford in Northumberland, focusing on reducing the carbon footprint of road materials. The facility increases the use of recycled asphalt planings up to 45% and utilizes warm mix technology to lower embodied carbon for customers. The plant improves operational efficiency by 55% and has reduced exhaust emissions by 18%. It is equipped with burners designed for a future transition to dimethyl ether fuel, further cutting CO2 emissions in the long term.
