Tanzania's Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has told the National Carbon Monitoring Centre to prioritize a small number of mature, bankable carbon projects instead of promoting 119 projects still in early preparation. Speaking at COP12 in Dar es Salaam, he said the public should not be given false expectations about credits that may take years to materialize. He also warned against projects that mainly generate allowances and workshop payments without improving lives. The NCMC reported that four carbon projects have been implemented since 2022, with 4.2 billion credits expected to generate about 52 million USD. The projects have distributed clean cooking stoves to more than 9,000 households and provided clean water to over one million people. Ndejembi asked officials to report only on projects advanced enough to show real benefits for Tanzanians, and to move from paperwork to practical implementation.
