Tanzania's National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC) has signed a cooperation agreement with Japanese companies Bricklayers and Amamo under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). The deal aims to attract Japanese investment into carbon credit projects, with a focus on improved cooking stoves. Officials say the partnership will support climate mitigation, public health, and private sector participation in Tanzania's carbon market. The JCM is a bilateral framework under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It will help strengthen Tanzania's capacity in measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions. Japanese investors cited NCMC's established coordination system and Tanzania's favorable investment environment as reasons for their interest. The agreement is expected to link climate mitigation projects in Tanzania with Japanese technology and capital, contributing to both countries' Paris Agreement commitments.
