The Bureau of Land Management has granted Tallgrass Energy a right of way to use 480 acres of federal pore space in Wyoming for permanent CO2 storage. The project, located in Laramie County, still needs final Class VI injection well permits from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality before it can operate. By using only subsurface rights, the project avoids surface disruption on public lands. This approval is part of a broader push to open federal lands for carbon capture and storage infrastructure. Tallgrass plans to offer sequestration services to industrial emitters and connect into regional CO2 pipelines. The storage hub could support multiple capture projects, but the commercial viability depends on securing enough CO2 supply and proving safe long term containment. The BLM grant is a permitting milestone, not the end of the review process.
