Nantou County in Taiwan is developing a 1.7 kilometer circular cable car system to connect scenic peaks, waterfalls, and tea gardens by 2031. Part of the Taichi Meidi Low-Carbon Tourism Development Plan, the project aims to reduce vehicle congestion and physical barriers in the rugged Taiji Canyon region. The NT$1 billion project includes four primary stations and is designed to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional road-based tourism. While the project length exempts it from a full environmental impact assessment, the county has committed to ecological surveys to protect local flora and fauna during construction.

A 1.7km loop is pretty small for a billion NTD. I wonder what the actual power draw is for the lift system and if they are tying it into a dedicated renewable source or just pulling from the local grid. Does the plan mention any onsite solar for the stations?

The private sector concession model for operations is the real play here. The government builds the asset, then lets a private firm handle the maintenance. If the ridership doesn't hit the projections, the maintenance quality usually drops fast.
