Taiwan is implementing a carbon fee system targeting power generation, gas supply, and manufacturing companies emitting over 25,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases annually. The Ministry of Environment expects to collect approximately NT$4.5 billion in the first payment cycle. Experts are calling for better coordination between central and local governments to ensure fee revenues are allocated transparently. Key priorities include creating a nationwide emissions data platform and using carbon budgets to fund decarbonization in sectors like healthcare.
