Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg Partner to Bring Soil Carbon Solutions and Mycorrhizal Technology to Farmers in Latin America and Europe

Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg have announced a strategic partnership to commercialize mycorrhizal fungi products aimed at improving crop yields and soil health while generating carbon credits for farmers. The deal will initially target corn, soy, cereals, and sunflower markets in Latin America and Europe, with Syngenta handling distribution and Groundwork managing manufacturing, digital tools, and the carbon credit program. Mycorrhizal fungi work by forming symbiotic relationships with crop root systems, boosting nutrient and water uptake, and promoting the formation of mineral-associated organic matter that can store carbon for the long term. Farmers benefit from more fertile soils, better water retention, and an additional revenue stream from carbon credits. The partnership reflects a growing trend of integrating biologicals with carbon market incentives in agriculture. Syngenta's Chief Sustainability Officer noted that the program goes beyond carbon farming to build resilience and restore soil health. The collaboration positions mycorrhizal fungi as both an agronomic tool and a pathway for climate mitigation, with potential for expansion into other regions and crops.
