Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg Partner on Soil Carbon Credits and Biologicals for Farmers
morningstar.comSyngenta and Groundwork BioAg have announced a strategic partnership to bring mycorrhizal fungi products and soil carbon credit programs to farmers. The deal will initially target corn, soy, cereals, and sunflower in Latin America and Europe. Syngenta will market the biologicals under its own label, while Groundwork handles manufacturing, supply, and the carbon program. Farmers using the mycorrhizal technology can improve nutrient uptake and crop resilience while earning revenue from carbon credits tied to soil carbon sequestration. The fungi help form durable organic matter in soil, which can store carbon long term. The program covers over 280,000 hectares through Groundwork's existing Rootella Carbon program. This partnership reflects a growing trend where agricultural inputs are paired with carbon market access. The key question is how verification and permanence of soil carbon credits will be handled at scale across different regions and crop types.
