Swiss Biomethane Tender Adds Biogenic CO2 Capture and Liquefaction to Sewage Gas Upgrading
carbonherald.comSwiss wastewater association EBBV has tendered a biogas upgrading facility that will process sewage sludge gas and inject biomethane into the Swiss gas grid. The tender includes a mandatory option to capture, purify, and liquefy the biogenic CO2 stream from the upgrading process, a sign that European projects are starting to treat separated CO2 as a usable product rather than waste. Switzerland is approaching 50 grid-connected biomethane plants, with national biogas potential estimated at 4 to 6 TWh per year. The EBBV project fits a broader regional push to decarbonize utility networks by combining biomethane injection with carbon capture and utilization. Engineering firms with experience in membrane separation, gas purification, and CO2 liquefaction will find a concrete near-term opportunity in this tender.
