Sweden is introducing a national strategy to boost the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and sustainable maritime fuels (SMF). The plan aims to reduce reliance on imports and mitigate price volatility by leveraging Sweden's renewable electricity and biomass resources to meet strict EU blending mandates. The proposal includes new R&D programs for solid biomass biofuels, green credit guarantees, and risk-sharing mechanisms like double-sided auctions to bridge the gap between producers and buyers. These measures are designed to provide the long-term financial certainty needed for large-scale industrial decarbonization in transport.
