The Sunshine Coast Council and LMS Energy have launched a new renewable energy facility at the Northern Waste Precinct in Bli Bli. The plant captures landfill biogas to generate approximately 9,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually, providing power for around 1,500 homes. This project focuses on methane destruction, which is a potent greenhouse gas. By converting waste to energy, the facility aims to reduce emissions by 55,000 tonnes per year and generate carbon credits through the Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme.
