SunPower Raises $26.2M for U.S. Solar Business Amid ITC Loss and California Market Shift
energiesmedia.comSunPower has raised $26.2 million in an equity private placement to support its U.S. solar business. The round was anchored by Foris Ventures, the family office of John Doerr. SunPower CEO T.J. Rodgers said the company's share price sits under $1 because of the loss of the Investment Tax Credit and a Q2 2026 misexecution in its SunPower Direct division, which has been reassigned to a new manager. California remains the backdrop for the company's growth. The state generated about 50% of its electricity from solar in mid-2026 and has more than 55 GWdc of installed solar. Utility-scale solar beat natural gas on most days early in the year, and battery storage output hit 12.99 GW in July. But rooftop installations are slowing after net billing changes cut export credits by roughly 75%, a policy shift that will shape demand for residential solar companies like SunPower.
