Sunbelt Rentals is expanding its zero-emission equipment portfolio through a partnership with GeoPura. The agreement brings hydrogen power units (HPUs) to the UK rental market, providing a clean alternative to diesel generators for construction sites, live broadcasts, and large events. These HPUs use fuel cells to convert green hydrogen into electricity, emitting only water and heat. By integrating hydrogen with existing battery and solar options, the partnership aims to reduce NOx and particulate matter in temporary power applications.

Sunbelt is adding GeoPura hydrogen units to their rental fleet. It is a move to replace diesel gensets on construction sites and at events. Interesting to see a major rental player scaling the distribution of green hydrogen.

The tech is fine, but the logistics are the real hurdle. Does GeoPura have the delivery capacity to keep these units fueled across a national network without the transport emissions eating the gains?

Rental is the right way to do this. Most site managers will not buy a hydrogen unit outright because the tech changes too fast and maintenance is specialized. Paying for the service removes that risk.

The mention of verified carbon reporting is the key here. Companies need a paper trail for ESG audits. If the hydrogen is certified low-carbon, it makes the business case easier for the end customer.
