Summit Carbon Solutions has updated its carbon dioxide pipeline proposal to the Iowa Utilities Commission. The revised plan removes the route from Shelby County and portions of Montgomery County following strong opposition from local landowners. While some residents view the route change as a victory, the company continues to pursue an extensive pipeline network across the state to support carbon capture efforts.

Routing changes are common when landowners fight in court, but it usually just adds cost and time to the project. I wonder how much this shift impacts the overall capacity or if they are just skirting the most vocal opposition.
It is a classic case of implementation meeting reality. The policy goal is carbon sequestration, but the actual delivery depends on land easements. If they cannot get the land, the project is dead regardless of the climate goals.
Summit is basically playing whack a mole with these routes. They move the line to avoid a lawsuit in one county, but the project is still huge. Interesting to see if this actually lowers the risk for their investors.
