Japan's Sumitomo Corporation is pursuing a strategic partnership in Sarawak to develop blue carbon and environmental conservation projects. The proposal includes a phased approach starting with feasibility studies and community capacity building, eventually moving toward the generation of voluntary carbon credits. Discussions also highlighted the potential use of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Malaysia and Japan. This framework aims to align investment with Sarawak's low-carbon economy goals and biodiversity preservation policies.
