StratX landfill biocover technology raises $1.2M for methane reduction in developing nations

StratX, a London-based climate tech company, has raised nearly $1.2 million to deploy its biocover landfill technology in Africa, South America, and Asia. The covers use local soil, gravel, and indigenous microbes to oxidize methane before it escapes into the atmosphere. The company says the approach can convert old landfills into carbon credit revenue sources without upfront cost to municipalities. Investors include Neglected Climate Opportunities, CarbonFix, and Terraset. StratX plans pilot projects in Tanzania, Colombia, and Chile. The firm says landfill methane is a major unmanaged source of climate pollution, and its method aims to address sites that traditional containment solutions cannot reach affordably.
