Strategic Biofuels secures first Louisiana Class VI permit for carbon-negative biomass power project
biomassmagazine.comStrategic Biofuels has received a Class VI sequestration well permit from Louisiana regulators for its Louisiana Green Fuels project. The permit is the first in the state to cover multiple injection wells and provides storage capacity for CO2 from up to 600 MW of carbon-negative electric power generation using sustainable forestry feedstocks. The project combines biomass-to-power with permanent geological carbon storage, offering dispatchable 24/7 renewable energy. It sits directly above the sequestration reservoir, avoiding the need for long CO2 pipelines. Local support was strong with 21 of 24 public comments in favor and unanimous parish government resolutions. With the permit secured, the company can advance power capacity tied to verified permanent carbon storage. The project positions itself as a replicable model for carbon-negative power and economic development in rural Louisiana.
