Strategic Biofuels has selected IHI Power Services Corp. to handle operations and maintenance for the Louisiana Green Fuels project. This 100 MW facility will use local forestry waste to generate electricity while utilizing carbon capture and sequestration technology to reduce emissions. The project aims to deliver 75 MW of carbon neutral power to the grid. By combining biomass energy with CCS, the facility seeks to create a low carbon energy source using regional organic waste streams.

100 MW nameplate but only 75 MW to the grid. That is a significant internal load, likely due to the energy penalty from the carbon capture equipment. I wonder what the actual capacity factor will be given the reliance on forestry waste logistics.
The economics here probably lean heavily on 45Q tax credits for the sequestration part. Without those subsidies, the cost of running CCS on a biomass plant is usually too high to compete with straight renewables or natural gas.
Operationalizing wood waste is always the hardest part. Getting the feedstock consistent enough to keep the boilers running without constant fouling is where these projects usually struggle. Glad to see they hired an O&M firm with actual biomass experience.
