Stockport NHS Foundation Trust's Blood Science Laboratory at Stepping Hill Hospital has received My Green Lab Gold certification, a global standard for sustainable laboratory practice. The award covers work in the Biochemistry and Haematology teams to cut energy use, reduce waste, and use resources more efficiently. The certification was supported by Siemens Healthineers and is part of a wider Green Plan shared with Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. Pathology labs are heavy users of single use plastics and energy, so improvements in this area directly support the Trust's net zero goals while also cutting costs. Local NHS leaders say the award shows how staff can take ownership of sustainability in their own departments. It also gives other hospital labs a concrete benchmark to aim for.
