The third edition of the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal assessment analyzes the current scale of the CDR sector, which is growing at about 40% annually. While current removal levels remain low at 0.002 GtCO2 per year, the report compares necessary growth rates to the historical scaling of solar PV and electric vehicles. The analysis highlights a significant gap between current national climate pledges and the removal levels required for Paris-compatible pathways. It also notes that while investment in CDR companies has remained resilient despite a general climate tech slowdown, future demand expectations are becoming more fragile.
