State Grid Changzhou launches low-carbon EV charging with carbon points to boost local solar power use
manilatimes.netState Grid Changzhou Power Supply Company has launched a low-carbon EV charging program at Chuangzhi Park in Liyang High-Tech Zone. The initiative uses a carbon point reward system to encourage EV owners to charge during peak solar generation hours, helping to absorb more local photovoltaic power and reduce curtailment. Users get real-time charging time recommendations through a mini-program, and earn carbon points that can be redeemed against future charging fees. One local driver reported that three days of participation covered about one third of the cost of a full charge. The system relies on a smart energy management platform that analyzes real-time solar output and charging demand to identify low-carbon windows. The campaign runs through June 2026 and includes a triple points promotion during the Dragon Boat Festival. It is a practical example of using digital tools and small financial incentives to align EV charging behavior with renewable energy availability, which could be scalable to other industrial parks or urban areas.
