DHL and J D Wetherspoon reduced annual carbon emissions by 123 tonnes at their Daventry distribution hub by upgrading to a low-charge ammonia refrigeration system. The new Azanefreezer 2.0 installation cut annual electricity use by over 600,000 kWh, delivering a payback period of less than two years. The project replaced an aging 2004 plant with a 290kW system that utilizes AI-driven monitoring to optimize performance. This upgrade demonstrates how transitioning to low-charge ammonia and digital optimization can significantly lower the carbon footprint of large-scale cold storage operations.
