A new architectural design called the Star home has demonstrated a 57% reduction in embodied carbon compared to traditional cement-block houses in Tanzania. By using 73% less concrete and incorporating passive cooling, the design lowers the environmental impact of rural construction while reducing material costs by 24%. Beyond carbon savings, a three-year trial shows the design significantly improves child health. The integration of upper-floor bedrooms, mosquito screening, and better ventilation led to a 44% drop in clinical malaria and lower rates of pneumonia and diarrhoea.
